Artemis Ensemble

Artemis Ensemble was founded 1990 in Vienna by Deborah Gonsalves and Berthold Hamburger. Since then the group has given concerts in Europe, Asia and South America as string quartet, piano trio and other chamber music formations with the collaboration of invited artists.

The repertoire comprises literature from the classic until 21st century including compositions that have been composed for the Ensemble. During more than a decade Artemis Ensemble mainly performed as a piano trio involving the renowned Japanese pianist Mariko Moritani .
In recent years, the Ensemble has centred and expanded its activity on string quartet literature and is now made up of four musicians of the Orquesta Sinfónica de Galicia. The Artemis Ensemble regularly performs in their Spanish home state Galicia and has also participated in the 2010 edition of the Mozart Festival in La Coruña.
A lot of work also goes into giving local composers a podium by playing and recording their music.

Apart from their activity as performing artists, the members of the group are dedicated teachers and regularly participate as coaches in various pedagogic projects that involve students of all ages.
Understanding that being musicians also means serving the society, the Artemis Ensemble has committed itself to help the most disadvantaged and donates part of its fees to SOS Children Villages and in particular to the SOS village in Redondela/Pontevedra located in the province of Galicia/Spain.
